THE Minister of Defense, General Christopher Musa, has urged members of the Esiele and Yawota Communities in Oyo State to be vigilant and report any security anomalies to security officials in the state.
Speaking during the condolence visit by the federal government delegation to the communities on Sunday, May 31, 2026, General Musa emphasized the need for the cooperation of the members of the community as their knowledge of the terrain is very vital in maintaining in their community.
“Our appeal is that the security forces cannot do this alone, we need your cooperation also,” he said.
The delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police and the Minster of Defense, conveyed the deep concern of the President and the commitment of the federal government at ensuring that all the victims are returned safely.
He announced that the President has approved the recruitment of 1000 forest guards from the first week of June as part of the efforts towards improving security in Oyo state.
The delegation also said that the President had directed a specialized security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to strengthen the efforts to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The delegation also met with the wife of the deceased school teacher and her two children, while the Chief of Staff delivered the condolences of the President and assured the family that they would not suffer.
It will be recalled that on May 15, 2026, some armed men abducted 39 students and seven teachers from the Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
Meanwhile, many Nigerians are wondering if the government is doing enough to protect schools and vulnerable communities, particularly in rural communities that are exposed to criminal activities.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Federal Government to reassure the residents of its commitment to the safe return of the abducted pupils and to update the communities on the ongoing security and rescue efforts of the government.
