FRANK Nneji, Founder of ABC Transport Plc, has called on the Federal Government to place greater emphasis on road infrastructure development and involve private sector participation to improve transportation and support economic growth.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary lecture of CityBusiness News on Thursday in Lagos, Nneji highlighted the role of logistics and transportation in driving economic activity.
According to him, road transportation remains the dominant mode of movement in Nigeria, yet the sector does not receive the level of attention given to the aviation sector.
He argued that while issues affecting air transport often attract immediate national attention and policy discussions, challenges within the road transport sector, which serves a far larger share of Nigerians, receive comparatively less focus.
“Statistics show that more than 90 per cent of Nigerians still move by road,” he said, stressing the need for stronger policy attention and investment in the sector.
Nneji also advocated increased private sector involvement in road development, saying that concessioning roads can improve quality, maintenance and long-term sustainability of the sector.
According to him, the transport operators will support such initiatives if they will result in better road conditions.
“We are ready to pay tolls to move on very good roads,” he said.
Speaking on the broader role of logistics in national development, Nneji described transportation as a critical driver of economic activity, noting that efficient movement of goods supports commerce and everyday life.
He also highlighted the role of the media in shaping public policy and national development, citing past advocacy efforts by transport and business publications that helped draw attention to road infrastructure concerns.
Nneji urged journalists and media organisations to continue reporting issues affecting logistics and transportation, saying that sustained public engagement can contribute to policy action and sectoral growth.
He congratulated CityBusiness News on its 10th anniversary and commended the publication for its support and coverage of the logistics industry over the years.
