Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, and some members of National Assembly on inspection tour of Deep Sea Port Road in Lagos
THE Federal Government is modifying the design of Section 3 of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos State to minimise demolition at the Eleko Junction.
The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, disclosed this while inspecting road projects in the state.
Umahi said the government planned to construct a cloverleaf flyover at the junction as part of efforts to improve traffic flow and reduce the impact of the project on surrounding communities.
“At that junction of the Eleko, we are going to have something very beautiful, and that is a cloverleaf flyover.
“We are modifying the design of that location. We will try to minimise a lot of demolition at that junction, and we are taking this project all the way to the Sagamu-Benin Road,” he said.
The minister said the government had also awarded an additional contract for the construction of service lanes on the corridor under the Federal Government’s tax credit scheme.
According to him, the service lane project is being executed by Dangote Industries Ltd. and has attained about 70 per cent completion.
“The service lane is technically about 70 per cent done. It is a different contract but it is tax credit for Dangote.
“The Deep Sea Port first section is 27km and dualised, and this Section 3 is a 27km single carriageway with three lanes because it is 11.55 metres wide,” Umahi said.
He disclosed that at least 16km of the road had been completed.
Umahi said he recently met with officials of Dangote Industries, who assured him that the project would be completed from October to November.
“We had a meeting with Dangote about two days back and he agreed that they would finish the project from October to November; so, this evacuates the Deep Sea Port and Lagos traffic down to Sagamu,” he said.
The minister also disclosed that the construction of the 7th Axial Road had been undertaken by the Dangote Refinery.
“That is a total of about 51km between Sections 1 and 2, and it is coming just somewhere before the Epe Roundabout and it is also taking traffic all the way to the Lagos-Sagamu-Ore Road on two different locations,” he said.
Earlier, the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mr Olayiwola Komolafe, said that Section 3 of the Deep Sea Port Road project covered 27.7km.
“We have achieved 16.1km,” Komolafe said.
He added that the section would cost N128 billion upon completion. (NAN)
