Tension erupted at a polling unit in Ilawe Ekiti during the ongoing Ekiti governorship election after supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) clashed over allegations of vote buying.
The incident occurred at Unit 4, Ward 2, where an argument reportedly escalated into a confrontation between supporters of the two political parties.
One person was injured during the altercation and was taken to a hospital for medical attention.
ADC candidate alleges vote-buying attempt
ADC governorship candidate, Dare Bejide, who voted at the polling unit, alleged that some individuals attempted to bring money to the voting area for distribution.
He claimed the situation led to disagreement after some party supporters allegedly tried to prevent the alleged activity.
According to Bejide, a suspected APC member arrived close to the polling location in a vehicle with money, which allegedly triggered the confrontation.

Bejide said one of his aides was attacked during the incident and sustained an injury before being taken away for treatment.
He alleged that security personnel brought by some individuals were involved in the confrontation.
However, the allegations have not been independently verified.

espite the incident, the ADC candidate praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials for what he described as a good handling of the election process.
He said electoral officers had remained professional and that voting activities were progressing.
