Amid growing concerns over robbery incidents in Abuja’s city centre, the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ahmed Sanusi, has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under the Metro Area Command to eliminate robbery-related crimes within two weeks or face disciplinary action.
The directive followed a security meeting with the 17 DPOs serving under the Metro Area Command, during which the police chief reviewed the prevailing security situation and discussed strategies for tackling emerging threats across the territory.
The directive was issued on Friday, when Sanusi met with the DPOs and expressed concern over a range of security challenges affecting the city, including traffic robberies, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, the activities of “one chance” robbery syndicates, motorists driving against traffic, and the operations of commercial motorcyclists on major roads.
The police commissioner also highlighted incidents of vandalism of public and private property, indiscriminate parking on highways, and persistent traffic congestion as issues requiring immediate attention.
He subsequently ordered the DPOs to bring the identified crimes under control within two weeks, warning that failure to comply with the directive would attract consequences.
Sanusi further instructed all DPOs and the Area Commander of Metro Area Command to concentrate their efforts on securing the city centre, noting that he would personally oversee the management of security challenges in suburban areas of the FCT.
The commissioner stressed that negligence would not be tolerated and tasked the Area Commander Metro, as the supervising officer, with providing effective leadership and ensuring strict compliance with the directives.
The FCT Police Command also appealed to residents to support ongoing police operations by providing timely and credible information through the nearest police division or the command’s emergency lines.
