No fewer than 10 people have been rescued from the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building located on Old Ojo Road, by Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town, Lagos.
Emergency responders confirmed that 10 occupants were pulled out alive, while search and rescue operations are ongoing to determine if others remain trapped beneath the debris.
The intervention followed distress calls received at about 11:49 a.m. on Thursday, by the Ijegun-Egba Fire Station after the building reportedly caved in without warning.
Agencies currently involved in the coordinated rescue operation include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
According to the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, the building was a residential structure occupied by multiple tenants at the time of the incident.
She added that those rescued with varying degrees of injuries have been taken to medical facilities for treatment.
Adeseye further noted that search and rescue operations are ongoing as emergency teams continue efforts to locate, extricate, and evacuate any persons who may still be trapped beneath the debris.
