The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two additional suspects linked to the abduction and assault of the Chairman of Ikere-West Local Council Development Area, Rufus Olorunfemi, and one Funso Ajayi, bringing the total number of suspects in custody over the incident to five.
Recall that the Command had earlier announced the arrest of three suspects over the weekend in connection with the case.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said the latest arrests were made on June 6, 2026, when operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit apprehended Daramola Sehinde and Oluyede Dapo, in addition to the three suspects arrested on June 4, 2026.
He said the suspects were arrested over allegations of conspiracy, abduction, and assault occasioning harm on Olorunfemi and Ajayi at Ikere Ekiti.
Abutu added that the suspects would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other individuals linked to the crime.
Meanwhile, the Command dismissed allegations by the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next week’s election, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, who accused the police of intimidation, harassment, and illegal arrests through the Rapid Response Squad.
The Police Command described the allegations as unfounded, insisting that its operations remain professional, lawful, and guided by due process.
