EFCC arraigns UNIBEN staff over N3.2m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a staff member of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, one Segun Adedeji, at the Edo State High Court over N3 billion fraud.

Adedeji was arraigned at the court on a four-count charge bordering on fraudulent practices amounting to ₦3,285,396 which he allegely commited while being an employee at the UNIBEN, simultaneously drawing salaries from the National Orthopedic Hospital in Benin.

The Commission stressed that such fraudulent practices undermine public trust and accountability in government institutions, and well as highlighting it’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on financial misconduct within Nigeria’s public sector.

The court adjourned the matter after the arraignment, while Adedeji faces trial on charges that could lead to significant penalties if found guilty.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to pursuing cases of fraud and corruption to safeguard public resources.
