THE Federal Government, through the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, says collaboration with the International Social Security Association (ISSA) has reinforced Nigeria’s commitment to social security and employees’ compensation.
Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, Managing Director of NSITF, disclosed this on the sidelines of the ongoing 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, where ISSA Secretary-General, Marcelo Caetano, met with the NSITF delegation.
Faleye was represented at the high-level engagement by the Executive Director, Administration, Mr Samaila Abdu.
ISSA is the world’s leading body for social security institutions, bringing together more than 340 member organisations across 165 countries to promote excellence in social protection systems.
Faleye reaffirmed NSITF’s commitment to deepening its partnership with ISSA and implementing global best practices in social security administration.
He said that the Fund would continue to pursue initiatives that enhance workers’ welfare and strengthen compensation mechanisms for employees across Nigeria.
Faleye added that collaboration with ISSA had provided valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing, capacity building and institutional development within Nigeria’s social security landscape.
According to him, NSITF remains focused on expanding social protection coverage and ensuring more inclusive access to compensation and insurance services for workers.
Speaking during the meeting, Caetano commended NSITF for successfully hosting a regional ISSA conference in Abuja and advancing social security development in West Africa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NSITF hosted social security institutions from across West Africa at an ISSA conference in Abuja between April 22 and April 23.
The conference had the theme, “Improving Inclusiveness and Accessibility of Social Security Services Through Effective Communication in West Africa.”
He also commended the Faleye-led management team for its commitment to strengthening social protection mechanisms and expanding access to workers’ compensation and social security services.
“NSITF has demonstrated remarkable leadership in promoting social security development and regional cooperation across West Africa,” he said.
Caetano lauded the Fund’s continued support for ISSA programmes and initiatives aimed at improving social protection systems across Africa and globally.
He noted that stronger collaboration among social security institutions remained critical to addressing emerging workplace challenges and extending protection to more workers.(NAN)
