Abducted Oyo school principal clears air on kidnappers’ ransom request

The abducted principal of Community High School, Esiele, in Oyo State, Rachael Alamu, has dismissed reports that her captors listed as ransom before releasing the schoolchildren and the teacher, the payment of N1 billion, release of arms and ammunition, as well as the imposition of Sharia law in the state, saying this is not true.

Alamu said that the gunmen’s requests never included such demands, stressing that their abductors’ ransom specifically indicated that they would be set free when their members held by the Federal Government through the Nigerian Army have been released from captivity.

The principal lamented that the reports that trailed the ransom request were misleading, arguing that the development had complicated efforts to secure the rescue of the teachers and students from the abductors.
