'Came illegally, don't want him in US': Mother of Ohio teen killed in crash backs ICE deportation of Indian man
The mother of the pregnant teenage girl who was killed in a car crash in the US said she supports Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) decision to deport him back to India, adding that she is okay with him being “kicked out permanently,” Newsweek reported.
“I’m OK with him being kicked out of the country permanently. We came to find out he came here illegally at first,” said 40-year-old Annette Holmes. “They can send him wherever he is best off because I don’t want him in the States no more.”
17-year-old Ashlee Holmes was a passenger with Tarsem Singh, the accused, in a Range Rover when the car crashed, ejecting her. The accident took place when authorities asked him to stop, and instead, he increased the speed of his vehicle, leading to a chase that reached 100 mph, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The chase went on for 5 miles before Singh reportedly crashed head-on into a Jeep Cherokee, causing Holmes’ death.
Singh was taken to a local hospital for injuries and was later arrested. The driver of the Jeep was reportedly injured but remained conscious and alert.
ICE, in a post on X, said: “Indian criminal illegal alien Tarsem Singh’s crash injuries are slight compared to those of his 17-year-old pregnant passenger Ashlee Holmes and her unborn child, who were allegedly thrown from his Range Rover and killed when he crashed after fleeing Ohio police at 100 mph.”
It added: “The immigration detainer we placed on him will ensure he faces deportation proceedings after he faces justice… without being released into the community.”
According to ICE, Singh is being held on a $1 million bond. He was indicted on March 23 on:
— 2 counts of felony involuntary manslaughter for Holmes and her unborn child
— 2 counts of felony reckless homicide
— 2 counts of felony aggravated vehicular homicide
— Felony vehicular assault
— Felony failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer
