Nigerian singer BNXN has triggered conversations online after claiming that living in Lagos can be more expensive than some major cities in the United States.
The singer, whose real name is Daniel Benson, made the statement while speaking during a recent TikTok livestream after revealing that he had relocated to the US.
According to BNXN, his experience abroad has changed his perception of the cost of living, especially when comparing daily expenses and social pressures.
BNXN Compares Lagos Expenses With Life in America
The musician said that although people face financial challenges everywhere, his experience in the United States has been different in some areas.
He explained that since arriving in the US, he has not experienced some of the street-related demands for money that he associated with Lagos.
BNXN said:
“I was telling someone, since I got to the United States, nobody has asked me to give them money. And people are also suffering here.”
Singer Says Lagos Can Be More Expensive Than Los Angeles
The singer further claimed that Lagos is extremely costly, arguing that outside housing expenses, some aspects of living in Los Angeles are more affordable compared with Nigeria’s commercial hub.
“Lagos is super expensive. It is more expensive than Los Angeles. Aside from housing, every other thing in LA is not expensive,” he said.
He added that his monthly rent in the US was a major expense, but described the payment system as more straightforward.
BNXN’s Statement Sparks Online Reactions
The comparison has generated mixed reactions among social media users, with some agreeing that rising living costs in Lagos have become challenging, while others questioned the comparison between the two cities.
The debate comes amid increasing discussions around inflation, housing costs and the financial pressure faced by residents in major cities around the world.
