No fewer than six residents have been abducted by suspected bandits during a midnight attack in Unguwan Dutse, a community in Wasagu Town of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The victims, including women and children, were taken away by heavily armed assailants who stormed the settlement in the early hours of Friday before security operatives could respond.
Those abducted were identified as Lawali Kabir, 34; Ubaida Jabir, 3; Fatima Jabir, 27; Mardiyya Fahad, 28; and her two children.
According to a community member, the attackers arrived in large numbers, overpowered residents, and forcibly whisked the victims away from their homes.
“The gunmen operated swiftly and left with the victims before help could reach the area,” the source said.
A military source said a distress call from the community triggered an immediate response from a joint security team.
However, by the time the operatives arrived, the bandits had already fled into the forest surrounding the community with the abductees.
The source further disclosed that the attackers were believed to have come through a forest corridor linked to the Zamfara axis, an area often associated with bandit activity.
According to the source, coordinated search-and-rescue operations have since been intensified across surrounding forests to secure the victims’ release.
“Operations are ongoing, and additional deployments have been made to strengthen surveillance and prevent further attacks,” the source added.
