The Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU) Yola zone, has urged the federal and state governments to as a matter of urgency implement all agreements entered into between with the union to salvage the country universities from another disruptions of academy activities.
The zone which includes Adamawa State University Mubi (ADSU), Borno State University, Federal University Gashua Yobe state, Madibbo Adama University ( MAU) Yola, Taraba State University (TSU) Jalingo, University of Maiduguri ( Unimaid) and Yobe state University (YSU) Damaturu gave ths warning at a press conference in Yola.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Yola, the ASUU zonal cordinator, Comrade Dani Mamman, expressed serious concerned over the continued deterioration of the Nigerian University system and refusal by government to implement the agreement entered into with the union, stressing that the union is running out of patience.
He noted that they have engaged the relevant authorities several times without any positive result.
The chairman further enumerated some of the issues to includes non- implementation of the 2025 FG- ASUU negotiated agreement, refusal to implement consolidated Academic Tools Allowance ( CATA) , Earn Academic allowance ( EAA) in Adamawa state University, Borno State University,Taraba State University and yobe state University among other issues including failure to give university system deserving attention.
According to him, these are not sudden demands and unreasonable request but they are matters that have been discussed, negotiated ,documented and repeatedly brought before government through several engagements.
ASUU further maintain that a negotiated agreement is not a decoration nor a political statement for public relation, but a binding commitments
The Union further added continued failure of government to implement the 2025 FG- ASUU agreement among other issues demonstrates a profound disregard for the principle of collective bargaining and shows lack of government seriousness about the survival of public Universities in the country.
