Army Rescues Woman, Infant from Kidnappers’ Den in Kogi
Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued a woman and her six-month-old baby after terrorists abducted five members of a family in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The rescue operation followed a swift military response to the kidnapping incident, which occurred late on June 3, 2026, at a residence near Solid Rock School in the Ijalu area of Egbe.
According to the Army, the attackers invaded the home and abducted five family members, including Mrs. Adekemi Idowu, her infant child and three other relatives before fleeing the scene.
Upon receiving a distress report, troops of the 12 Brigade under the 2 Division Nigerian Army immediately mobilised alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and launched a pursuit operation along the terrorists’ escape route.
The military said the sustained pressure mounted by the combined security team forced the kidnappers to abandon Mrs. Idowu and her baby near the Oro axis before escaping into the surrounding area.
The rescued victims were subsequently reunited with their family, while troops intensified search-and-rescue operations to secure the release of the remaining abductees and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims.
The Army also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations against criminal elements.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army.
