Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under the 2 Division, have rescued two victims abducted by suspected terrorists in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The victims, identified as Adekemi Idowu and her six-month-old baby, were rescued following a swift military response to a kidnapping incident at a family residence near Solid Rock School in the Ijalu area of Egbe.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the attack occurred on Wednesday evening when armed terrorists stormed the residence and abducted five family members, including Idowu, her infant child and three others.
According to the Army, troops immediately mobilised alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) after receiving a distress call and launched a pursuit operation along the kidnappers’ escape route.
Abdullahi said the sustained pressure mounted by security operatives forced the terrorists to abandon Idowu and her child near the Oro axis before fleeing into the surrounding area.
He added that the rescued victims were safely reunited with their family, while troops have continued intensive search operations to secure the release of the remaining abductees and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations across the state.
