Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a blind man, Sani Abdulahi, who has been accused of illicit drug deals in Borno State.
The army held that Abdulahi engaged in drug peddling inside an IDP camp in Borno state and was apprehended during a targeted operation following intelligence reports linking him to the sale of the prohibited drugs.
A military source familiar with the arrest, yesterday, said that several items including 32 wraps of cannabis, 21 wraps of Erinmore, four tablets of tramadol, an additional wrap containing white tablets suspected to be illicit drugs, a Tecno Android phone, two talismans, a wristwatch and Bluetooth device were recovered from the accused during the operation conducted by troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai at about 8 p.m. on Monday inside the Government Secondary School Internally Displaced Persons camp in Gwoza.
The source, yesterday, said that the arrest underscores the military’s determination to combat all forms of criminality, regardless of the circumstances of those involved, to ensure public safety and protect vulnerable members of the society.
According to the source, military forces would continue to intensify surveillance and enforcement measures aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks operating within civilian settlements.
He said the suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing interrogation to determine whether he has links to a wider drug distribution syndicate.
While describing the security situation in the theatre as generally calm, the military source cautioned that troops remain alert to emerging threats.
He stressed that personnel are highly motivated and committed to sustaining pressure on criminal elements operating within the region.
Meanwhile, the source added that residents and camp officials welcomed the arrest, saying it would strengthen security and help preserve the camps as safe shelters for displaced persons.
