Akwa Ibom: Police arraign social media influencer over false security alarm

The Akwa Ibom State Police command says it has arraigned one Akaninyene Udo, popularly known as ‘AK Philo’, for allegedly spreading misleading security information.

Udo, a social media influencer, was reported to have posted a threatening message with an image of an armed bandit captioned “Eket get ready for us.”

Addressing journalists in Uyo on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, disclosed that after investigations, the suspect was charged and subsequently detained in a correctional centre.

CP Azare emphasized that creating, publishing or spreading false security alerts and deceptive information that could cause public alarm is a criminal offense, stressing that  those found culpable would face legal action.

The commissioner also said operatives of the command have re-arrested a suspected receiver and distributor of stolen phones, one Musa Idris, with 34 assorted android phones linked to robbery within and outside the state.

He disclosed that the suspected receiver was arrested along Calabar–Itu Road axis following credible intelligence, adding that investigations have revealed that the suspect had previously been arrested in October 2025 for offences relating to armed robbery and possession of over 200 Android phones suspected to be stolen.

The CP added that the command has commenced the clampdown on vehicles registration regulations in the state.
