The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC), calling for an investigation into alleged judicial misconduct in a case involving its former National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe.
The petition raises concerns over the handling of Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025, which is currently before the Federal High Court.
Allegations of Improper Judicial Conduct
In the petition dated June 1, 2026, the party accused senior judicial officers of alleged abuse of office, disobedience to court directives, and bias in the handling of the matter.
The complaint specifically referenced actions said to conflict with earlier directives linked to a Supreme Court ruling on the case.
According to the petition, the reassignment of the case raised concerns about procedural compliance and judicial consistency.
Dispute Over Case Reassignment
The ADC further argued that the reassignment of the case to a different judge allegedly contradicted earlier judicial instructions.
It maintained that such actions created room for concerns about fairness, procedural irregularities, and possible forum shopping.
The party insisted that proper judicial hierarchy and constitutional provisions must be strictly followed in all proceedings.
Call for NJC Intervention
The petitioner urged the NJC to investigate the circumstances surrounding the handling of the case and determine whether any judicial code of conduct was breached.
It also requested appropriate disciplinary action if any wrongdoing is established, stressing the need to preserve public confidence in the judiciary.
