Adamawa: NDLEA convicted 270 suspects, seized over 5 tonnes of illicit drugs in one year – Commander
The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Adamawa state command, has arrested 583 drug suspects, convicted 270 and seized over 5 tonnes of various illicit drugs substances worth millions of Naira.
The command illicit substance include Tramadol, Diazepam, Codeine weighing 2,451.684 kg and cannabis weighing 2,925.089 kg respectively within one year
Speaking at a press conference in Yola weekend, the state commander of NDLEA, Aliyu Abubakar, reiterated his commitment to raised public awareness on the danger of drug abuse and work with all stakeholders in addressing the persistent drugs problems through innovative and proactive responses.
He noted that the theme for this year’s celebration underscores the reality the nation faces in the fight against substance abuse not only in Adamawa state, but across the country.
According to him, the new challenges lies in the use of digital platforms for trafficking and the direct links between drug abuse and the insurgency/insecurity plaguing the country.
The commander further noted that within one year, the command has been able to secure a temporary forfeiture of assets and proceeds of crime with over 13 vehicles, and a house forfeited to the Federal Government.
Aliyu further enumerated some of the achievements recorded by the command which includes training of over 36,082 males and 28,334 females secondary school students in prevention programmes, establishment of drug prevention desk officers among secondary schools teachers and intergrity test on over 263 workers.
According to him, other achievements include rehabilitation and reintegration of over 111 drug.
In his remarks, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who was represented by the commissioner for culture and Tourism, Hon. Aloysious Baba Doke, commended the NDLEA for their unwavering commitments and assured them of the state government’s readiness to support them at all times in the fight against illicit drugs and trafficking.
