AT least five persons reportedly sustained injuries in Sunday’s multiple-vehicle accident that occurred at the Toll Gate area of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun.
The Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, on Monday.
Akinbiyi said the crash occurred at about 11:35 a.m. and involved a truck, six cars and two tricycles, with 11 persons, comprising eight males and three females.
He said that the five persons, which included three females and two males, sustained varying degrees of injuries, while the remaining occupants escaped unhurt.
Akinbiyi said, “Three of the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital, Ota, for treatment, while the other two were taken to undisclosed hospitals by their family members.”
He attributed the accident to excessive speeding and brake failure.
According to him, the incident happened, when a truck, with registration number TRN 71 XB, reportedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and later rammed into other vehicles on the highway.
The TRACE spokesman further said that all the vehicles involved in the crash had been towed out from the scene to ensure the free flow of traffic on the busy corridor.
He urged motorists to avoid speeding and also ensure their vehicles were roadworthy before embarking on any journey. (NAN)
