The vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has lost his mother, Mary Amaechi, who died at the age of 89 after a brief illness.
The family announced her passing in a statement issued by the Rotimi Amaechi Media Office, describing the late Mary Amaechi as a devoted Christian, respected community leader and beloved matriarch whose life was defined by faith, peace, unity and selfless service.
According to the statement issued on Thursday, she was a pillar of strength to her family and community, earning widespread admiration for her unwavering commitment to Christian values and community development.
“Late Mary Amaechi was a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace and unity. She was a community women’s leader and Christian leader whose faith in God was firm and unwavering,” the statement read.
The family further described her as a compassionate and generous woman who touched countless lives through her kindness, warmth and unwavering support for others.
“She was loved and highly respected in her community and will be remembered for her warmth, kindness and steadfast support for those around her and beyond,” the statement added.
Amaechi and his family also expressed appreciation to friends, supporters and well-wishers for the outpouring of condolences and prayers since the announcement of her death.
“Rt. Hon. Amaechi and the entire family are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of condolences and love already being shown to them during this difficult time,” the statement said.
The family added that details of the funeral arrangements would be announced in due course, while thanking the public for their continued prayers and support during this period of mourning.
