ANDREA Usoh of Edo delivered a dominant performance to claim the Wheelchair Women’s Singles title at the 2026 CBN National Open Championship, defeating Chituru Nwazuzu 6-0, 6-1 in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match was played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Usoh was in complete control throughout the contest, overwhelming her opponent with powerful groundstrokes and consistent court coverage to take the opening set without dropping a game.
Nwazuzu attempted to respond in the second set, but Usoh maintained her intensity and composure, breaking serve repeatedly to race to a commanding lead before sealing the set 6-1 and securing the championship in emphatic fashion.
The victory capped an impressive campaign for the Edo star, who showcased her experience and dominance in the wheelchair category throughout the tournament.
Speaking after the match, an elated Usoh described the victory as a significant milestone in her career, noting that it was her first title at the tournament after ten years of competing.
“This is the first time I am winning this tournament in ten years, and I feel so great.
“It means I am moving higher, and by the grace of God, I will do even better next year,” she said.
Uso attributed her success to dedication and consistent hard work.
“I won through hard work. Hard work truly pays, and my coach can testify to that.
“I am always at the stadium training because I have a target, and by the grace of God, I will achieve it,” she added.
In spite of finishing as runner-up, Chituru Nwazuzu, representing Delta, expressed satisfaction with her performance and determination to improve further.
“I feel happy because it is not easy to reach the final. I was Nigeria’s number three before, but now I am number two.
“I trained very hard to reach this milestone, and I will train even harder in 2027 because I want to become champion,” she said.
NAN reports that Alex Adewale beat Rasaq Bankole, 6-0, 6-1, in the final match to retain his title in men’s singles wheelchair. (NAN)
