La Liga club, Villarreal, have announced that manager, Marcelino Toral, will leave the club at the end of the season after after securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season.
Villareal and Toral failed to agree on contract extension on his existing contract, thus, leading to a mutual extension on both partying ways, bringing the Spanish tactician’s spell to an end after two years in charge.
“Villarreal CF and the Asturian (region of northern Spain) coach will part ways at the end of the season,” a statement by Villareal on Monday reads.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Marce, for everything you have given to this club and these fans.”
“We wish you all the best in your future sporting endeavors,” the club confirmed on social media.”
The 60-year-old, who guided the Yellow Submarines to a 5-1 win over Levante during the weekend to secure a top-tier European football for the side next season, is in his second spell at the club after initially joining in 2013 till 2016 and then rejoined in 2023 and finished 8th, and then fifth the next season.
Toral, who also managed the team between 2013 and 2016 and guided them back to the Spanish top flight, has led Villarreal more than any other coach with 298 games across all competitions.
Local reports have disclosed that Rayo Vallecano coach, Inigo Perez is in the running to succeed outgoing Marcelino.
