Troops Kill 2  terrorists kingpin, 9 others, foil attacks in Zamfara, Katsina — Army

  
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted planned terrorist attacks in Zamfara and Katsina States, killing 9 terrorists including 2 notorious kingpins and recovering 4 AK-47 rifles and 9 motorcycles in operations conducted between May 1-3, 2026.  
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division/Sector 2, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement issued Sunday in Gusau.  
He said, 4 bandits were Killed Along Turare Yantumaki road. “In Katsina State, troops of Forward Operating Base Fudma, while on a fighting patrol, encountered terrorists along the Turare Yantumaki Road in Dutsima LGA.  
“In the ensuing firefight, the troops neutralized 4 terrorists and recovered 2 AK-47 rifles with 2 magazines and some quantities of ammunition,” Osoba said.  
He said troops also recovered were 2 motorcycles, 7 mobile phones, and N153,000 cash.    “In Zamfara, troops at Forward Operating Base Bagega executed a high-stakes operation in Anka LGA between May 2-3, killing 5 terrorists, including 2 notorious kingpins identified as Anaruwa and Gomina.  
“Anaruwa was the younger brother of Kachalla Idi Aiki, a known terrorist commander,” he  said.  
He added that troops engaged terrorists along Bagega Anka Road. Four armed terrorists on 2 motorcycles retreated and abandoned their bikes.  
The terrorists regrouped and launched a counterattack on FOB Bagega.  Following reinforcement and precision airstrike from the Air Component, troops repelled the assault. Troops recovered 2 AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines and 7 motorcycles during exploitation.  
“On May 3, troops encountered 2 additional terrorists on motorbikes in the same area and neutralized them on the spot. 
“Tragically, one soldier paid the ultimate sacrifice during the operation,” Lt. Col. Osoba said.  
He added that troops have “consolidated their presence in Bagega, maintaining dominance over the area to prevent further threats.”  
“Army urged vigilance. Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirms its dedication to protecting citizens and urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies,” he said.
