Former Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has declared that he is not aware of any consensus arrangement for governorship aspirants in Yobe state, hence he has submitted Nomination and Expression of Interest forms to contest the party’s primary.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after he returned his forms Monday in Abuja, the former IGP also said he would prirotise security matter in Yobe state if given opportunity to serve.
According to him, provision of security is the primary objective of government, and I have the capacity to do that.
When asked why he joined the race when the party had settled for a consensus candidate, he said: “If I believed in it I would not be here. I have not seen where any consensus has taken place. I have not participated in any consensus meeting, and I have not agreed to support anybody. That is why I am here.
“I have the passion, I have the credibility, and I have the attitude and everything needed to lead the people of Yobe state as governor.”
Also speaking after submitting her forms, the only female governorship aspirant from Nasarawa State, Dr. Fatima Abdullahi, expressed confidence of emerging the APC candidate after the primary.
According to her, it is disheartening that since 1999 till date no woman has govern as a state Governor.
When asked on the mode of primary she will prefer, Fatima Abdullahi said: “We will be comfortable with the direct primaries, which is what my state is adopting, because as you can see we have over six aspirants currently in the state that have bought forms and some have submitted their forms. So automatically we are going for direct primaries.”
