The former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu (rtd), officially submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms, declaring a “security-first” mandate for the state.
Addressing journalists shortly after the submission, the former police boss downplaying Governor Abdullahi Sule’s reported endorsement of fellow aspirant, Aliyu Wadada.
Responding to questions regarding whether he felt threatened by the sitting governor’s preference, Adamu maintained a calm, democratic stance.
He noted that political endorsements are a matter of personal choice rather than a final verdict on the will of the people.
“The governor is a human being, just like any other person. And he feels that he has a preferred candidate. So he has the right to do that,” Adamu stated.
He further illustrated his point by suggesting that the power ultimately lies with the electorate. “Just like you, maybe in Nasarawa State you don’t prefer Wadada, you prefer somebody like me. It’s also your choice. So we don’t take offense at all. All that we want is to appeal to the people in the state for them to give us support.”
Drawing from his extensive background in law enforcement, Adamu identified the restoration of peace and safety as his primary objective if elected. He argued that without a stable environment, economic progress remains a pipe dream.
“I think the first objective when we get there is to talk of security, to make sure that everybody is safe in the state. We need to provide physical security and human security and all aspects of security,” he said.
He emphasized that his administration would focus on building a “solid foundation of security,” which would subsequently pave the way for initiatives targeting women, youth, and broader economic development.
With the party opting for a direct primary system, the former IGP noted that his team is shifting into high gear to engage grassroots supporters across the state.
“We are fully aware that the primary election is through direct primaries. We have teeming supporters and we will go back… to sensitize and mobilize our supporters so as to come out on the day of the primary election,” Adamu concluded.
