Supporters of Siminalayi Fubara have begun positioning themselves for the upcoming House of Assembly primaries under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Reports indicate that several of his close allies obtained nomination and expression of interest forms before the deadline.
Although the governor has not officially declared his intention to seek re-election, political observers believe these moves signal early preparations within his camp. The outcome of the primaries is also expected to influence his potential second-term ambition.
Many of those contesting are individuals who played active roles during the political crisis that recently affected Rivers State. This includes former lawmakers from a dissolved faction of the State House of Assembly and local government figures whose elections were nullified by a Supreme Court ruling.
Among the notable names are Chijoke Ihunwo and Victor Oko-Jumbo, both seen as strong allies of the governor. Their participation highlights a coordinated effort within Fubara’s camp to maintain political relevance and influence.
Oko-Jumbo declares interest, praises leadership
Victor Oko-Jumbo confirmed that he has picked up forms to seek re-election as a representative of Bonny Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly. He highlighted his achievements in office, including legislative contributions, infrastructure projects, and empowerment programmes.
Oko-Jumbo also commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promoting fairness and due process. In addition, he praised Governor Fubara for his leadership and commitment to the welfare of the people, stating that he remains focused on serving his constituents effectively.
Chijoke Ihunwo also confirmed his intention to contest for a seat representing Obio-Akpor Constituency 1. He described his decision as part of a broader commitment to public service and improving the lives of residents.
Ihunwo emphasised the importance of inclusive governance, promising to engage stakeholders, community leaders, youths, and women in decision-making processes. He said his focus would be on policies that support development, empower young people, and improve infrastructure across the constituency.
The development is expected to increase political tension in the state, particularly between Fubara’s camp and the opposing bloc linked to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
