All Progressives Congress ( APC) leaders and stakeholders in Oyo state on Friday endorsed Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The party’s leaders and stakeholders endorsed Senator Alli at a high-level leadership summit held in Samonda, Ibadan, attended by members of the party from across Oyo state.
Speaking at the summit, a leader of the party, Senator Ayo Adeseun, said the endorsement of Senator Alli followed extensive consultations and was further strengthened by the position of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He stressed that he had previously met with the President Tinubu in Abuja, where the President reportedly provided strong justification for backing Senator Alli as the APC standard-bearer in Oyo state.
” Mr. President remains the leader of our party, and his opinion on who flies the party’s flag must be given due consideration,” he saidÂ
According to Senator Adeseun, as the national leader of APC, the President’s preference carries significant weight and should be respected by party members.
Emphasizing that Senator Alli had already declared his intention to contest the governorship seat prior to the endorsementÂ
The APC leader noted that the summit was convened primarily to affirm Senator Alli’s candidacy and build consensus among party leaders.Â
Director of the South West Development Commission, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle while speaking reaffirmed the position of the party leadership.Â
Alhaji Ibikunle pointed out that he also held discussions with President Tinubu, who, according to him, endorsed Alli as the preferred candidate for the 2027 election in Oyo state.
The APC chieftain then called on other aspirants within the party to align with the consensus’ decision in the interest of party unity and electoral success, adding that internal cohesion would be critical for the APC to mount a formidable challenge in the forthcoming governorship race.
Senator Sarafadeen Alli while speaking, lauded the APC leaders and other members for the show of support promising inclusive governance when elected as the Oyo state governor come 2027.
