2026 Workers’ Day: FCC boss moves to boost staff welfare, approves promotions, retirees’ pay
The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to staff welfare, career progression, and institutional harmony as the commission marked the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
According to a statement signed by the spokesperson of FCC, Ademola Lawrence, speaking at the well-attended event organised by the FCC Tripartite Union and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday, Hon. Omidiran announced key welfare and administrative approvals aimed at boosting staff morale and operational efficiency.
The FCC boss disclosed that funds have been approved for the payment of retirees’ entitlements, with disbursement to commence in batches as releases are made available.
“I have approved repatriation monies for retirees, but approval is different from releases. We will begin payment in batches as funds are made available, and I urge you to remain patient as we continue to improve welfare needs and benefits, even beyond expectations,” she said.
On career progression, the FCC boss approved the processing of staff promotions and directed that the exercise be concluded before the end of May 2026.
“I have approved that staff promotions be processed before the end of this May, and I encourage you to believe that even the things you are not thinking of, we are already working to bring to you. Be patient, prayerful, and remain committed,” she added.
The former two-time House of Representatives member further announced measures to strengthen engagement and inclusiveness, including introducing quarterly staff interactions and an annual end-of-year ceremonial gathering.
“We will have structured interactions once every quarter, and by the grace of God, every December, we will hold an FCC end-of-year party,” she said.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the FCC Tripartite Union/JNC, Benson Ameh, commended the Executive Chairman’s leadership and reform drive.
“Your leadership has restored confidence, strengthened unity, and repositioned the Commission for greater efficiency and relevance,” he said.
Also speaking, former President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (2013–2019) and former President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, now Honourable Commissioner representing Taraba State, Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama, emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration.
“Sustained dialogue, mutual respect, and shared commitment between management and staff remain key to achieving lasting industrial harmony and institutional progress,” he said.
In a goodwill message, the Director of Human Resources, Abubakar Tanimu, reaffirmed management’s commitment to staff development and welfare.
“Our commitment remains to build a motivated, professional, and future-ready workforce anchored on fairness, capacity development, and service excellence,” he stated.
The 2026 Workers’ Day celebration provided an opportunity to recognise the contributions of staff while reinforcing management’s commitment to building a motivated, productive, and future-ready workforce in line with the Commission’s mandate.
