A 21-year-old suspect, Anthony Oghenetega (also identified as Antonio Genetiga), has confessed to his role in the gruesome killing of a victim, revealing disturbing details of how the crime was planned and executed.
The suspect made the confession while being paraded during a press briefing at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
According to him, the motive for the killing stemmed from fear of exposure.
He explained that his associate who was a friend to both him and the victim became worried that the victim knew him too well and could reveal their identities to family and acquaintances.
Oghenetega disclosed that the victim was lured to his apartment under the guise of a friendly visit. Unknown to the victim, the suspects had already prepared weapons, including a cutlass, a stick, chains, and padlocks.
Upon arrival, the victim was warmly received and engaged in casual conversation. However, shortly after, the suspects executed their plan.
Following the killing, they put the corpse inside a “Ghana-must-go” bag, and transported it out of the compound under the pretense of going for a job.
To avoid suspicion, they carried along music equipment, hired commercial motorcycle and carefully transported the body to a remote location.
At the destination, they dragged the bag into a bush and abandoned the body before returning home.
The suspect further revealed that the following day, he contacted his father, who sent him N15,000 for transportation, after which he fled the area alongside his associate.
Oghenetega, who said he is from Delta State, confirmed he was 21 year- old at the time of his arrest.
Police authorities say investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to ensure all those involved in the crime are brought to justice.
