Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Algeria, Mohammed Mahmud Lele has handed away.
He died on the age of fifty.
The Ministry of International Affairs confirmed the event in a press release issued in Abuja on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
In accordance with the ministry, Lele died within the early hours of April 19, 2026, in Ankara, Türkiye, after a chronic sickness.
Till his dying, he served as Director of the Center East and Gulf Division on the Ministry of International Affairs and had lately been appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as ambassador-designate to Algeria, following Senate affirmation.
Born in Gamawa, Bauchi State, in 1976, Lele studied Economics at Bayero College Kano and held numerous diplomatic postings, together with assignments in Berlin, Lomé, and Riyadh.
The ministry described him as a devoted profession diplomat with a distinguished document of service, noting that his dying represents a serious loss to Nigeria’s overseas service.
His stays have been obtained on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Worldwide Airport, Abuja, by the Everlasting Secretary of the ministry, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, earlier than being buried in Kano in accordance with Islamic rites.
