The Lagos state Police Command have arrested twenty-three suspected cultists and recovered 5 firearms in a sweeping, coordinated crackdown on cultism and violent crimes throughout the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, stated the operations have been carried out concurrently in Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Okoko, Ilasan, Ogba, and Iju, as a part of the implementation of the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, to the Command to stamp out cult-related violence and unlawful arms proliferation.
He stated, “In Ikorodu, 4 suspects have been apprehended following credible intelligence linking them to cult actions, with preliminary investigations indicating affiliation with the Buccaneers Confraternity, also referred to as the Sea Lords.
“On Lagos Island, 9 suspected cultists have been arrested throughout a raid on a legal hideout, whereas in Ilasan, 5 suspects have been nabbed in reference to the cult-related killing of 1 Emmanuel Obioson.
“In Okoko, one suspect linked to the Eiye Confraternity was intercepted with a firearm. Equally, in Ogba and Iju, 4 suspects have been arrested for involvement in unlawful cult gatherings, assault, and different violent crimes. Victims of the assaults are at the moment receiving medical consideration.”
