Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has formally endorsed the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.
In a personal letter signed on Thursday, Ambode conveyed his full backing for Hamzat’s candidacy, commending his loyalty, diligence, and long-standing commitment to the APC over the past two decades.
The endorsement followed shortly after Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, announced his withdrawal from the contest for the APC governorship ticket in Lagos State, effectively clearing the path for Hamzat’s emergence as the party’s consensus choice.
“I join my fellow members of the All Progressives Congress to congratulate my brother and friend, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the Consensus Governorship Candidate of our great party, the APC,” Ambode stated in the letter.
The former governor noted that Hamzat’s adoption as the party’s standard-bearer was a reflection of his steadfast dedication to the party’s ideals of unity, progress, and service. He described the deputy governor as a loyal party man whose years of contribution have earned him the trust and confidence of stakeholders.
Expressing optimism about the future of Lagos under Hamzat’s leadership, Ambode said the state stands to benefit from his wealth of administrative experience and technical expertise.
“I am sure that our State will benefit immensely from your wealth of experience and skills,” he added.
Ambode also reiterated his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, stressing that continued backing for the President’s leadership is vital for sustained growth and stability in both Lagos State and the country at large.
“As I congratulate Dr. Hamzat on his adoption, I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our leader, President Bola Tinubu, GCFR. I strongly believe that the greater prosperity of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is firmly tied to the continued governance of Mr. President,” Ambode said.
He further pledged to work toward delivering a decisive victory for the APC in the 2027 general elections at both state and federal levels.
According to him, the target includes securing at least three million votes for President Tinubu in Lagos and ensuring the re-election of APC senators and members of the House of Representatives in the National Assembly.
The endorsement is expected to strengthen internal party cohesion in Lagos as the APC begins early consolidation efforts ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
