Family of late musician OG Millan alleges two sons killed in separate police incidents (Video)

The death of 28-year-old musician Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan, has sparked renewed controversy after his family alleged that he and his brother were both killed in separate incidents involving police officers.

The claims were made during a visit by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, a former Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Government, who shared a video of the grieving mother describing what she called a pattern of repeated tragedy involving law enforcement.

According to the mother’s account, OG Millan’s older brother died in 2022 after being arrested from their home. While police reportedly described that incident as a death during an exchange of gunfire, the family insists he died while in custody.

The family further alleges that OG Millan was shot dead earlier this month in Effurun by a police officer under disputed circumstances. The musician was reportedly unarmed at the time of the shooting, according to eyewitness accounts cited by local sources.

“This is a mother who has lost two sons in the same manner,” Gwamnishu said in a statement accompanying the video. “Accountability is necessary.”

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that an internal investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding OG Millan’s death. The officer allegedly involved in the shooting has reportedly been taken into custody for questioning.

However, authorities have yet to release a detailed account of the incident or respond to the family’s broader allegations regarding the 2022 death.

The case has triggered outrage among residents in Effurun and members of the local music community, where OG Millan was known as an emerging Afro-pop artist. Fans have since held candlelight vigils in his memory, with calls for justice spreading across social media under the hashtag #JusticeForOGMillan.

Civil society groups are also demanding an independent investigation, arguing that the two incidents involving brothers over a four-year period raise serious concerns that require external oversight.

“The circumstances demand an impartial probe beyond internal police review,” one rights advocate said, urging the Police Service Commission to intervene.

As funeral arrangements are being made, the family has appealed to both the Delta State Government and the Inspector General of Police to ensure a transparent investigation that leads to accountability.

The case remains under investigation, with public attention continuing to grow amid broader national conversations about policing and accountability in Nigeria.
