Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally declared her intention to seek a second term in the Senate under the Peoples Democratic Party.
The announcement was made on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Kogi Central, signalling the start of early political mobilisation ahead of the next election cycle.
The declaration comes at a time when political activities are gradually building across Kogi State.
Party leaders, grassroots mobilisers, and loyal supporters gathered at the meeting to review the party’s direction in the senatorial district and prepare for what many described as a crucial electoral period.
The development was confirmed in a statement released by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mike Idoko.
According to the statement, the meeting drew key figures within the PDP structure in Kogi Central. Discussions focused on party unity, strategy, and strengthening support ahead of the polls.
Addressing party members at the event, the senator said her decision followed months of consultations across the district. She noted that leaders, supporters, and residents from the five local government areas had continued to urge her to seek re-election.
“After due consultations and encouragement from my lovely husband, I am here to say I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator,” she declared.
Her announcement was met with strong approval from attendees at the meeting. Many party members described it as a welcome development, pointing to what they called her visible impact since assuming office.
Party insiders say her declaration did not come as a surprise. They revealed that endorsements had been building steadily over the past few months. Community leaders and stakeholders had reportedly been pushing for her to continue, citing ongoing projects and representation at the national level.
During her speech, Akpoti-Uduaghan also stressed the need for unity within the PDP. She warned that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in future elections. She urged members to close ranks and resolve differences.
“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of our elections ahead,” she said.
The PDP leadership in the district also threw its weight behind her. Kogi Central Zonal Chairman, Anthony Akuvada, praised her performance in office. He described her as a leader who has changed the pattern of representation in the district.
“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has redefined representation in Kogi Central. Her performance in office has been nothing short of exemplary, from infrastructural development to human capital empowerment,” he stated.
Akuvada also highlighted her accessibility and regular engagement with constituents. According to him, her approach to leadership has helped bridge the gap between elected officials and the people.
“She is a leader who listens, understands the pulse of her people, and has consistently delivered on her promises. Her closeness to party members and constituents is a rare quality that continues to unite our party,” he added.
Observers say her first term has been marked by projects in education, empowerment programmes for youths and women, and advocacy for infrastructure development across Kogi Central. These efforts have reportedly strengthened her political base and increased her visibility beyond party lines.
At the meeting, the senator also took a moment to appreciate her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Otuoze Uduaghan, for his continued support throughout her political journey.
“My husband has been my steadfast support system, my encourager, and my strength through every challenge. I remain grateful for his belief in me and in this journey of service,” she said.
