The Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) has introduced that the final day for political events’ campaigns for the Osun State governorship election is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
INEC Nationwide Commissioner and Chairman, Info and Voter Schooling Committee, Mohammed Haruna, in a press release mentioned this was consistent with Part 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which supplied that campaigns shall finish 24 hours previous to election day.
The fee had on the twenty sixth of February 2026, issued the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Actions for the 2027 common election and adjusted the Osun State governorship election ahead by one week from the eighth of August 2026 to the fifteenth.

INEC mentioned it remained dedicated to the conduct of free, truthful, credible and inclusive elections.
In the meantime, a factional Nationwide Vice Chairman, South West of the LabourParty (LP), Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, has petitioned President Bola Tinubu, over a current switch of Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Mutiu Agboke, and the appointment of 1 Mrs. Toyin Babalola as his alternative.
He added that the folks of Osun State needs to be left alone to vote for whosoever they wished as their governor, saying it was the one path to a reputable election and a peaceable 2027
Arabambi acknowledged this whereas addressing a press convention, on Thursday , in Abuja.
He expressed fear over a sequence of administrative actions inside the Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) which he described as a threat to the nation’s democracy.
He defined that the appointment, tenure, and elimination of RECS weren’t issues of administrative comfort or whimsical decision-making by the INEC Chairman.
Arabambi cited the Third Schedule, Half 1, Merchandise F, Paragraph 2 of the 1999 Structure (as amended) and Part 154(1), which acknowledged that RECs have been appointed by the president and should be confirmed by the senate.
He identified that what they’d witnessed within the case of Agboke was a basic violation of this constitutional structure, including that INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, didn’t possess the ability to take away a REC.
