UNILORIN dismisses rumoured induction of 44 medical graduands

The administration of the College of Ilorin has described as unfounded hearsay making the rounds that the 44 medical graduands that accomplished their research final 12 months however not inducted into the medical career could be lumped with this 12 months’s graduating set for induction.

This clarification got here on the heels of trending X messages (previously Twitter) insinuating that the college is planning to conduct the induction of the remaining graduands alongside people who could be finishing their MBBS programme this 12 months.

Talking on behalf of the administration, the provost of the Faculty of Well being Sciences, College of Ilorin, Prof.  Biodun Suleiman Alabi, dispelled the hearsay as unfounded.

He stated:  “What occurred was that 194 college students sat for the ultimate MBBS examinations out of which 175 handed outrightly whereas 19 had re sits. We approached the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to come back and induct them. However we had been reminded that they might solely induct 150, which is our authorised quota. We had been instructed to rank them and the primary 150 of the 170 had been inducted in November final 12 months. Though there was a pronouncement by the federal authorities that the quota for medical college students’ admission could be doubled, that’s but to be carried out. We had been assured that the remaining 25 that handed and the opposite 19 that had re sit exams could be inducted at a later date.

“Since that point, we’ve interacted with the MDCN a number of occasions to solicit that the remaining graduands be inducted. This advocacy remains to be ongoing, however we don’t have any headway but.

“So, the hearsay within the social media that the MDCN stated the 25 that weren’t inducted in November 2025 and the 19 that handed their re sit examinations in January 2026 could be added to the set that can graduate this 12 months, is unfounded and we don’t know the place they’re getting the data from.

“I wish to enchantment to folks and their wards to be affected person, because the vice chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, and the administration staff are working assiduously to make sure that the remaining 44 are inducted quickly.”
