10,000 date palms to be planted throughout Jigawa – Namadi

Jigawa state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, weekend, held strategic talks with representatives of the Date Palm Basis from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by Professor Ahmad Al-Jabbar of King Fahad College, on advancing date palm production within the state.

The assembly, held lately on the Saudi Arabian Consul Basic’s residence in Kano, was attended by key officers, together with the Speaker of the Jigawa state Home of Meeting, Honourable Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, and different senior authorities officers.

Discussions centered on leveraging Saudi Arabian experience to enhance date palm production in Jigawa state by means of superior methods reminiscent of molecular segregation and tissue tradition. 

Governor Namadi expressed appreciation for the chance to interact with Saudi consultants, citing the state’s huge arable land appropriate for date palm cultivation, which makes it Nigeria’s main producer of date palm. 

The governor additionally disclosed plans to ascertain plantations in 5 places throughout the state and emphasised the necessity for capability constructing for date palm farmers to enhance yields and undertake fashionable practices.

He mentioned the initiative geared toward planting 10,000 date palm offshoots, masking each native and business varieties, alongside complete coaching and capacity-building programmes for native youth. 

Governor Namadi acknowledged that 1,042 hectares are at the moment beneath cultivation, offering employment for 400 youth, with plans to broaden participation to 1,000 youths.

He added that the scheme will allocate half a hectare to every taking part youth to assist sustainable livelihoods and inclusive progress, boosting productiveness, rising farmers’ incomes, and enhancing export potential.
