Reps intervenes in FCT Area Councils’ Auditing crisis

The House of Representatives has mandated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, to urgently appoint a substantive Auditor-General for the Area Councils. This decision was made after a resolution was passed at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.


The committee observed that the absence of a substantive Auditor-General had stalled the signing and transmission of audited accounts to the House, as required by the constitution. Representative Bamidele Salam, chairman of the committee, noted that the issue needed their intervention, prompting a motion to be moved to that effect.
