North Korea has reportedly created a new hacking group under its intelligence agency, the Reconnaissance General Bureau, with a focus on AI-driven cyberattacks.
The new unit—named Research Center 227—will develop offensive hacking technologies and programs, according to Daily NK, a news outlet specializing in North Korean affairs.
The report states that the unit will study Western cybersecurity systems and networks, enhance North Korea’s ability to steal digital assets, and develop AI-based techniques for information theft. Additionally, it will coordinate with the country’s overseas hacking units.
