Military Presence Takes Over Rivers Government House as Governor Fubara’s Whereabouts Unknown

The emergency declaration came in response to militant attacks on oil installations after the Rivers State House of Assembly served Governor Fubara with a notice of alleged misconduct. Militant groups had previously threatened to sabotage pipelines if impeachment proceedings against the governor moved forward.


President Tinubu responded by suspending both Governor Fubara and state lawmakers for six months, appointing an administrator to oversee the state during this period.


Residents reported approximately 10 military trucks patrolling roads leading to the Government House main gate, with armored vehicles stationed at strategic positions. The area from UTC junction to Government House was largely deserted as citizens rushed to return home amid the heightened security presence.
