Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who represents Ondo South Senatorial District has urged the United Nations (UN) to reject proposals for global taxation, citing the international system’s lack of authority and comprehensive structure. Ibrahim made this statement during the winter parliamentary opening session in New York.
According to Ibrahim, global taxes would exacerbate inequality and potentially increase poverty, undermining the UN’s efforts to eradicate poverty by 2030. He argued that the international system is anarchic, lacking the authority to enforce compliance.
