Lagos PDP accuses Sanwo-Olu of poor governance, demands new direction ahead of 2027 elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has criticised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration over several policies it described as unfavourable to residents, calling for a new direction in the state’s leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s Acting Chairman, Kayode Ogunbiyi, made the position known in a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

Ogunbiyi accused the state government of insensitivity, high-handedness and poor leadership, alleging that some of its policies had placed additional financial burdens on residents and undermined their welfare.

He said Lagos residents had expected Sanwo-Olu to provide leadership that would protect and build on the achievements of previous administrations but had instead been disappointed by policies he described as disrespectful to the people.

One of the issues raised by the opposition party was the reported charges imposed on solar installations in government-owned estates.

Ogunbiyi argued that the policy contradicted the Federal Government’s green energy initiative, which seeks to encourage alternative energy sources and reduce dependence on conventional electricity.

He also faulted the introduction of new levies on borehole drilling, saying the charges would further burden residents, particularly in communities where public water infrastructure remained inadequate.

The PDP chairman equally expressed concern over an alleged additional N200,000 deposit required from emergency patients at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), in addition to an existing N230,000 payment.

He described the reported requirement as unacceptable, arguing that access to emergency medical care should not be made more difficult for residents through additional financial demands.

Ogunbiyi further accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration in Lagos of favouritism and nepotism, claiming that its policies had failed to reflect the expectations of residents and the objectives of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He warned that the perceived shortcomings of the state government could affect the APC’s electoral fortunes in Lagos during the 2027 elections, noting that the state is Tinubu’s political stronghold.

The PDP acting chairman maintained that Lagos residents deserved competent leadership focused on development, accountability and policies that improve their living conditions.

He also expressed confidence in the party’s governorship candidate, Adedeji Doherty, describing him as possessing the experience, political maturity and vision required to provide a new direction for the state.

According to Ogunbiyi, Doherty has the capacity to restore public confidence and advance development in Lagos if elected governor.

He urged residents to reject what he described as the failed approach of the current administration and support the PDP in the 2027 elections.

The criticism comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with governance, public infrastructure, healthcare, water supply and the cost of living expected to feature prominently in political debates across Lagos State.

However, the allegations raised by the PDP represent the opposition party’s position, and the claims concerning the reported levies and hospital charges could not be independently established from the available reports.
