Barely hours after losing to reality TV star Phyna in the celebrity boxing bout at the Balmoral Promotions “Chaos in the Ring” event, actress Nkechi Blessing has defended her performance, revealing that she trained for only two days ahead of the fight.
Phyna defeated Nkechi by a fourth-round knockout in the bout held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Thursday night, October 1, with the result making her the winner of the first women’s celebrity contest.
Reacting to the outcome in a post on Instagram, Nkechi refused to allow the defeat to diminish her sense of achievement, describing herself as a champion regardless of the result.
“Still a CHAMPION regardless of the result… even the blind knows who the winner is,” the actress wrote.
She then drew attention to the limited time she had to prepare for the bout, revealing that she had only two days of training.
“Somebody shout NBS!!!!!!!! That is if you really watch the fight oooo… only Two days training ooooo,” she said.
Nkechi also acknowledged her coach, expressing appreciation for the role she played in helping her prepare for the contest despite the short training period.
“Shout out to my coach I love you girl,” she added.
The actress also appeared to draw a line under the boxing experience, indicating that her primary career remains acting.
“Now let’s go back to making movies cus I no be boxer,” she wrote.
The contest was scheduled for four rounds, but Phyna secured the victory in the final round after knocking Nkechi to the canvas, where she was unable to beat the referee’s count.
Phyna subsequently received a new car and a ceremonial ₦50 million cheque as part of the prizes attached to her victory.
