Naked Trump statue goes on display inside EU building

A statue of US President Donald Trump has been put on display inside the European Parliament building in Strasbourg, France.

The 2.5-metre satirical statue, created by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt, is titled “Orange Plague” and depicts the US leader naked, holding a long gold club and sitting on the shoulders of a smaller man.

The statue was unveiled on Tuesday at an intersection connecting two of the parliament’s buildings and is scheduled to remain on display until Thursday.

Cards placed beside the statue describe Trump as the “King of Injustice” and depict him “sitting on the back of a man” who is sinking under the burden.

“I would do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back,” one of the cards reads, with the artist accusing Trump of hindering efforts to tackle climate change.

Danish left-wing Member of the European Parliament, Per Clausen, who invited the artist, said he was not concerned about a possible reaction from Trump.

“If someone is so thin-skinned that they cannot tolerate this sculpture being exhibited in the European Parliament, then they have no place on the world stage,” Clausen said.

Trump has not commented on the statue, which has also been displayed in other European cities and at the COP30 UN climate conference in Belém, Brazil.
