GOVERNOR Seyi Makinde has distributed 33 motorcycles and 72,000 notebooks to School Support Officers (SSOs) and School Mobilisation Officers (SMOs) to boost student enrolment and strengthen basic education across Oyo State.
The initiative, flagged off on Monday in Ibadan, was implemented under the Better Education Service Delivery for All Additional Financing – Transforming Education Systems at State Level (BESDA AF-TESS) Project.
Gov Makinde, represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, described the intervention as a practical investment aimed at making education more accessible, inclusive, and effective.
He charged the beneficiaries to use the items strictly for improving learning outcomes and cutting down the number of out-of-school children.
“The SSOs and SMOs serve as critical links between schools, families, and communities and will help identify out-of-school children, encourage enrolment, boost attendance, and prevent dropouts,”the governor stated.
He added that the 72,000 notebooks will provide immediate relief to pupils lacking basic learning materials, enabling them to participate fully in lessons and complete their schoolwork.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on Education Intervention, Mr Suraj Abiodun, called on school authorities, parents, and community leaders to cooperate with the officers to ensure the benefits reach the most vulnerable children.
He also advised the students to attend school regularly, remain committed to their studies, and make excellent use of the materials.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Sam Ogunsola thanked the Oyo State Government for the support, pledging that the motorcycles will be effectively utilised to enhance school monitoring and curriculum delivery. (NAN)
