The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old security guard, Godwin Dauda, in connection with the death of an 11-year-old girl, Christabel Albert, in Suleja.
Dauda was arrested in Kuje, Federal Capital Territory, after the police identified him as a person of interest following information linking him to the incident.
As gathered, the suspect confessed to luring the deceased to his security room on September 19, 2026, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her before suffocating her by blocking her mouth and nose, resulting in her death.
According to the police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, on Friday, the suspect fled to the FCT after a pastor discovered the girl’s body inside the premises of the Apostolic Church, Suleja, where he worked.
Prior to the discovery, the deceased’s family had reported her missing on September 20, 2026, after she left home the previous day to attend a relative’s birthday celebration but did not return.
Following the report, police operatives, with the assistance of local government welfare officials, recovered the body and conveyed it to the General Hospital, Suleja, where it was subsequently identified as that of the missing girl.
The police said Dauda later confessed during interrogation to killing the girl and disposing of her body in a well before fleeing the area.
The Command said investigation was ongoing, adding that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna, for further interrogation and diligent prosecution in accordance with the law.
The police urged members of the public to disregard unverified information and refrain from circulating narratives capable of misleading the public.
