Panic and outrage have gripped Bauchi Metropolis following the assassination of former Zonal Women Leader for Bauchi South under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jamima Dutse, inside her house in the state.
Dutse was said to have been attacked and murdered by unidentified gunmen who invaded her residence in Bauchi, leaving the local community in mourning and raising fresh alarms over deteriorating security in the state capital.
The.murder has sparked sharp condemnation from political groups, civil rights organizations, and community members on Sunday, who were demanding swift accountability from law enforcement agencies.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Bauchi Chapter of the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement, the organisation described the assassination as a direct assault on the democratic fabric and public safety of the state.
“A society where citizens—regardless of their political affiliations, gender, or status—cannot feel safe in their own homes is one on the brink of breakdown,” stated Coordinator of the TIB Movement in Bauchi State, Nazif Bashi.
“This senseless act of violence is an attack not only on the victim and her family but on the peace and security of Bauchi State.”
The activist group called on the Bauchi State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately constitute a high-powered investigative panel to track down and prosecute the perpetrators.
They also urged both state authorities and security apparatuses to overhaul local intelligence gathering and surveillance within the metropolis to check rising violent crime.
“Justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done. Her blood will not lie in vain,” Bashi added, rallying civil society organizations and citizens to unite in demanding full transparency and periodic updates on the murder probe.
As of press time, the Bauchi State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding specific leads or arrests related to the invasion, but security personnel have reportedly deployed around the area to restore calm and initiate preliminary investigations.
