Gunmen have killed a 16-year-old girl, identified as Salomi Ishaya, in Plateau State, sparking a security response in the affected community.
The teenager was attacked and killed by unidentified assailants while returning from a river, with the attackers fleeing before security personnel arrived at the scene.
It was gathered on Monday that the incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m. yesterday in Luwaran village, Kawam District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A security source aware of the incident said troops of Sector 1, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), based in Jengre, responded after receiving information about the killing. On arrival, the troops found the victim’s body at the location.
Subsequently, the body was reportedly evacuated and taken to the mortuary at the SDA Hospital Mission in Jengre.
According to the source, military personnel, working with Keystone Security operatives in Jengre, have launched efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the killing.
The motive for the attack remained unclear as of today, while investigations continued to establish the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
